Cutie Mark: A silver rook (the chess piece). A number of different meanings are attached to the rook, the first being some cosmic pun on his given name and the second, but certainly not the last, being his protective tendencies and his preference for games of wit like chess.

Occupation: Trauma doctor. Arcane healer. Surgeon.

Appearance: Rook’s coat is a glossy black, not unlike the plumage of a raven, his namesake. His coat itself is very short, giving him a sleek, almost snake-like appearance. As a result, his tolerance for cold is very poor, resulting in a particular fondness for hot weather. His fetlocks are a silver color and his mane and tail are white. Physically, Rook is on the shorter side, with runner’s build rather than that of a draft horse.

Personality: Argent Rook has bountiful experience both academic and practical and thus has thoroughly decided that moving to Foalton would do him some good. He favors peace and quiet over rowdy celebrations, classical music to rock and roll, books to parties, and as a general rule keeps to himself most of the time. While at work, Rook can be rather task-oriented at times and can become quite cross if interrupted; it is best to wait for him to complete his current task before addressing him. He may appear aloof at times, but hooking him with a good story, a piece of academic trivia, or games of wits and precision like chess, darts, billiards, and cards will stir up conversation in no time.

Rook is extraordinarily protective of his patients, having dealt with very harsh field conditions in the far-flung lands beyond Equestria. Thankfully, conditions in Equestria are not nearly as austere, but his general attitudes and dedication to patient care remain. As such, Rook is one of the most capable and diligent doctors Foalton has to offer.

History: Argent Rook was born the son of a Trottingham doctor, following along with his father’s hoofsteps in practicing aetheric medicine. With his acquired skills and his father’s backing, Rook was able to attend medical school in Canterlot, where his skills were very quickly put to use shortly after graduation. Rook participated in a medical exchange program for his residency, which sent him into the lands beyond the sea with a mixed team of ponies and griffons to learn about aetheric medicine and treating non-pony species for injuries and illness ranging from colds to broken bones.

His experiences abroad gave him a new perspective on things in Equestria: this really was the good life, but there were plenty of things that could stand for improvement... like the fact that the little town of Foalton was without a trauma doctor. Rook moved to Foalton after his return to Equestria, looking to find a place to continue his studies at his own pace while he got some hooves-on experience. He currently works at the local clinic, providing emergency-room capabilities to the otherwise outpatient-oriented establishment.
